Wish You Were Here (Silverlake Music Festival 2012)

I'm not really a blogger or a writer , but I think I'm having a writer's block (LOL). I've been meaning to blog my Silverlake Music Festival experience since the day I got back from Thailand. But I couldn't start it because I basically don't know where to begin, what to start or what to write.

Okay, let's start this by venting how unfortunate (so ungrateful) I was last July. Everyone close to me could tell how sad I was with half of my incubus experience. I mean, the show was kickass, I was at the front row, got to meet Brandon, Mike, Kil and Ben. But the fangirl in me missed the most essential parts- enjoying the show and meeting Jose! Yep, I didn't enjoy the show because I was so amazed, I took a lot of photos and videos. So when HQ announced the show in Thailand, I figured this would be my chance to make up for my regrets!

The Silverlake music Festival in Pattaya, Thailand last January 28, 2012 was the biggest and the dopest I've ever been to. The ticket was cheap, but the festival was superb. I felt the Vans Warped Tour or Soundwave Fest vibe and wished we had that here in the Philippines.

The plan was just to see Incubus play, so we arrived at the venue around 9 PM, just in time for the meet and greet (special thanks to Steve Rennie, Matthew Murphy and Justin Wysong). The meet and greet was just chill, no annoying security who would hurry you up from talking to the boys or would keep you from bringing more than one item for them to sign (although that was the rule).

FINALLY!!!!
Right after the meet and greet, we squeezed in our way the closest we could get to the front row. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. There was a group of locals who tried to to stop us by looking sternly, and I was like, "who cares". But when they started talking sh*t and nasty things, I decided to stop.

Seether was playing their last song when I got to settle. I must say, I'm not really a fan, I only knew one song. Anyway, I just looked around observing people and tried to be friends with a few Thais who were basically there, just to see Incubus, too.

The crowd was chanting IN-CU-BUS with rhythm on repeat while the crew was setting up the stage. The chant got even louder when Incubus finally went on stage, then suddenly it was replaced with deafening roar, screams, feet stomping headbanging and a kick of adrenaline rush to the effervescent tune tune of Megalomaniac.  I stopped taking pictures and started screaming, dancing (more like a jumping), singing at the top of my lungs and waving my hands in the air. Then came Pardon Me, Adolescents and Privilege. That was the first time I ever heard Privilege live!  After the first four songs, I was already a total wreck, I could feel my throat hurting and could feel my heart beating so fast. It was If Not Now, When? when I took a break and just watched. It was the most surreal part, the blue and yellow lights seemed like dancing intimately while Brandon was singing with his guitar. The effects of the light made me feel I was watching them in a super High Definition DVD with surround system! I swear, I even pinched my arm but the vibe wouldn't go away.

A Crow Left of the Murder woke me up from the seemingly trance, Anna Molly went on, then Have You Ever. I was back in reality when I heard Glass intro. It's one of my favorite songs from S.C.I.E.N.C.E! I was thrilled, went wild again, singing, screaming "Jose!" and "Jose, I Love You" over and over!
In fact, every time the crowd went silent, I would scream his name at the top of my lungs. I realized there were only few of us near my spot who would totally go crazy, sing along to the songs. Most of the time, the crowd would just scream at the intro then,  nod their heads, watch and then scream again when the song was about to finish. They were only alive and kicking the whole time when Incubus played Drive. Who doesn't know Drive, anyway? It's a household song, everybody knows the lyrics.

I was tearing up when they were playing Wish You Were Here. This is the song which can best describe how I was feeling during the whole show. And in this moment I am happy, happy! and thought "this goes to my Incufriends back home and to everyone I know who's not here to share the happiness. I felt like crying already  when I heard Isadore! I couldn't stop from realizing how I was enjoying the show. They had magic Medicine and A Certain Shade Of Green for the encore. Encores are sad, so I was thinking they chose it to cover up the reality. Whatever! LOL

I must say, the whole experience was beyond greatness and gave me this euphoric kind of feeling. The experience of meeting Incubus (again) and finally, Jose plus the mastasmagorical show was a three fold Utopian dream! Thank you Silverlake and Incubus
